An Integrated Approach of Profile Studies for Surface Water Velocity on a Steep Slope in a Rectangular Channel

Résumé

The fl ow velocity of water and its accurate surface profi le estimation is important parameter as changes in climate increases the uneven rainfall patterns causing fl ood in downstream. It is important to know the velocity profi le in steep open channel fl ows for solving the soil erosion, fl ooding and sediment transport problems in rivers or streams on steep slopes. A fi xed bed laboratory experiment for a rectangular channel with steep slope is conducted to fi nd the velocity profi les and surface profi les at diff erent sections. Velocity profi les are presented at diff erent sections in rectangular channel with steep slope. The outcome of the laboratory based experimental investigation shows that the velocity and surface profi les are infl uenced by the depth of fl ow of water and channel bed slope respectively.
