Nurses’ Job Satisfaction in Public Hospitals in Addis Ababa

Abstract Job satisfaction largely determines the productivity and efficiency of human resource for health. It literally depicts the extent to which professionals like or dislike their jobs. Job satisfaction is said to be linked with different personal and organizational factors affect employee’s organizational commitment and consequently the quality of services. The objective of the study is to determine the level of and factors influencing job satisfaction among nurses’ in public hospitals in Addis Ababa city administration. Cross-sectional descriptive survey research design will be used to gather information from the targeted population without creating contradiction. To determine the size of sample the researchers will use single population proportion formula with the assumption of 95% confidence level. The sample size is 333. Self-administrated survey questionnaires will be used to collect data from respondents. The study revealed that the level of job satisfaction of nurses in public hospitals of Addis Ababa were very low. The factors that related with low job satisfaction are mainly related to salary and benefited, lack of growth and development and training. Low involvement in decision making process and lack of administrative support were other strong factors of low job satisfaction.
