Editorial: One Health in action: neglected tropical diseases, vector and pest management
Résumé
One Health is a master key using multidisciplinary science approach to sustainably optimize co-balance among human, animal, and ecosystem. Epidemiological surveys, identification, diagnosis, and control of neglected tropical diseases, and vector and pest management, would be addressed to achieve the prospects for the One Health approach.Epidemiological surveys have a crucial role in recognition of newly emerging diseases among animals and humans with emphasis on their geographical distribution. Orlando et al., 2023 reported for the first time the serological prevalence of leptospirosis in horses in Ecuador. The results revealed a hundred percent seropositive cases from the collected samples with a multiple leptospira species. This record of subclinical leptospiral infection in horses confirms the significance of one health approach in management of such zoonotic diseases. Moreover, Marcondes et al., 2024 emphasized the role of the cross-sectional study which analyzed utilizing the “R” language in management and control of lymphatic filariasis. as it’s one of the endemic mosquitos- borne diseases in Olinda, Brazil. The authors adopted how the varying conception levels, different management of the disease in endemic area although consistent follow up by health teams, could identify shortcomings in control of lymphatic filariasis morbidity. In addition, Noh et al., 2024 revealed the impact of one health approach by identification of multiple erythrocytes adhesins antigens named Mlp3, Am779, Msp3, and Omp13 emerged from screening of phage display library expressing 66 A. marginale parasite proteins. Those antigens may consider future candidates in the development of Anaplasma vaccine to control bovine anaplasmosis. Bovine anaplasmosis is one of neglected tick-borne diseases which has a significant impact on cattle industry and ecosystem. The risk of using antibiotics and acaricides in prevention of tick and tick- borne diseases has great drawbacks affecting the humans and animals’ health plus contamination of the environment. Currently, with the directions for eco-friendly, safe globe, and one health approach, Guerrero-Manriquez et al., 2024 reviewed the feasibility of using of Bacillus thuringiensis (B. thuringiensis) as a promising biological control candidate for pest crops and vector- borne neglected infectious diseases. B. thuringiensis harbor plasmids which encode for expression of parasporal crystalline proteins. These Crystalline (Cry) and Cytolytic (Cyt) have toxic traits against class Insecta, including Lepidopterans, Coleopterans, and Dipterans. In this review, the authors highlighted the possibility of using Cry and Cyt genes as bioinsecticides candidates. In this research topic, we highlighted the influence of one heath attempt as a paramount approach in surveillance, identification of neglected tropical vector- borne diseases. In addition, the impact of utilizing the biological control agents as eco-friendly candidate to keep co- balance among human, animal, and environment.
