Review of: "Monkeypox among linked heterosexual casual partners in Bayelsa, Nigeria"

Article scientifique 2022 Anglais

Résumé

Potential competing interests: The author(s) declared that no potential competing interests exist. The authors have shown a probable heterosexual acquisition of monkeypox virus infection in these case series, analogous to the widespread monkeypox virus infection amongst men who have sex with men in non endemic regions in over 74 countries, leading the World Health Organisation to declare monkeypox virus a global emergency on 24th July 2022.It reiterates the need for significant investment in local laboratory diagnostic facilities to exclude or confirm other sexually transmitted/transmissible infections that cause genital ulcers. The limitations and non-generalizability of the case series has been poignantly espoused by the authors, but nevertheless it warrants greater clinical surveillance and collaboration in pari-passu with better diagnostic tools to confirm or refute this route of transmission amongst heterosexuals in endemic regions.
