Educating for Sustainability: The Role of Higher Education in Shaping Sustainable Consumption in Morocco
Résumé
This research aims to examine the impact of education on sustainable consumption behaviour and lifestyle choices. This research studies how integrating education for sustainable consumption into university curricula impacts students’ awareness of societal and ecological matters, inspire lifestyle changes, and encourage the reduction of the students’ individual ecological footprint. Based on data gathered from 250 Moroccan university students; the suggested conceptual model was examined by the authors using a Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) estimation. Results suggest that environmental knowledge is positively impacted by sustainable education which plays an instrumental in determining impact in attitudes toward sustainable consumption. Intention to embrace sustainable consumption habits is influenced by both knowledge and attitude. This research aims to understand how education influences Moroccan students’ sustainable consumption could. This study highlights the connection between education and sustainable consumption, potentially fostering the development of new programs that could help shape a responsible citizen with a sustainable consumption behavior
