Navigating Student Experiences Through the Lens of Quality in Ghanaian Higher Education
Résumé
The purpose of this study is to find out the experiences of students in Ghanaian universities. The research questions that guided the researchers were: (1) What are the experiences of Ghanaian higher education students with the learning environment? (2) How does involvement of students in extra curriculum activities enhance their experiences? (3) In what ways do the experiences of students influence their satisfaction? In exploring the phenomenon this study deployed qualitative interpretivist paradigm, rooted in two assumptions explicitly, ontology and epistemology. The researchers collected data by using interviews, and SERVQUAL model was employed as a guide. The responses were transcribed verbatim from audio recordings to safeguard genuineness and accurateness of facts. Twenty eight participants were selected from four Ghanaian universities. Results showed that the Universities are able to execute certain services in a reliable manner. That aside, universities staff are unable to provide the required customer care to meet the expectation of students. The study therefore illuminates the experiences of students not explored by other researchers but require a continuous improvement.
