Accelerated advancement in technology is increasingly transforming society and becoming an important aspect of modern day civilisation. In response, national science, technology and innovation policies and strategies are being revised and re-designed to ensure that they remain relevant, proactive and ready for emerging challenges, opportunities and impacts in a constantly evolving technological environment. This entails the development and implementation of policies and/or strategies that, for instance: (i) consider inclusive economic growth where the benefits of technological advancement and/or opportunities are shared fairly and equitably; (ii) promote the development of research and innovation programmes that respond to societal challenges; and (iii) respond to potential threats arising from technological advancement that could marginalise and/or pose a threat to society.
