Review of: "Overwhelming Post-Splenectomy Bacteremia Due to Streptococcus bovis Group Organisms: Report of Three Cases and Review of the Literature"

Résumé

Potential competing interests: No potential competing interests to declare. This is an important case series and a review of the literature. The authors have done well to present the available literature and outline the 3 new cases. A discussion of the Streptococcus bovis/Streptococcus equinus complex group might enhance the article by providing possible explanations of why these specific organisms are implicated in OPSI. The antibiotic choices for each case are interesting. It would be helpful to know how the choice of antibiotics was made (i.e., clinical guidelines, expert recommendations).
