Article scientifique 2025 Autre

Résumé

Purpose– This study aimed to identify the level of knowledge of construction professionals in Ghana on the definition of Circular Economy (CE) concept. Design/methodology/approach– Through purposive sampling and face-to-face interviews using semi-structured open-ended questions, qualitative data were collected from 39 construction professionals involved in procurement of building works in Ghana. The qualitative data were analyzed using a thematic analysis technique to organize and elicit meaning from the data collected. The study also made use of comparative matrix analysis to identify the exact level of knowledge of construction professionals on CE definition. Findings– The analysis showed that all the construction professionals were in the ‘poor level of knowledge’ category on the themes that were obtained from the study, as well as in the literature on the definition of Circular Economy. Among the professionals interviewed, the Quantity Surveyors had a knowledge level of 34.61% on CE themes, followed by Construction Managers with a knowledge level of 26.79% and Architects with a knowledge level of 22.21% on CE themes. The construction professionals with the lowest knowledge level on the themes were the Engineers, with a percentage of 11.25% on CE themes. Social implications– The findings from the study provide valuable insights for governments and policymakers seeking to promote circularity in public procurement of building works and professional institutions intending to position their members to achieve SDGs. Originality/value– This study has established the knowledge gaps regarding the knowledge level of CE definition in Ghana.
