Quantum Dot Energy Levels in Hybrid Monolayer-AA Stacked Bilayer Graphene

Abstract We investigate the energy spectrum of two types of hybrid system geometries: a circular quantumdot of single layer graphene encircled by an infinite sheet of AA-stacked bilayer graphene (i) and (ii) the circular quantum dot of AA-stacked bilayer graphene encircled by an infinite sheet of single-layergraphene. We establish analytical findings for the related energy levels and wave functions using thecontinuum model and the zigzag boundary conditions at the monolayer graphene - bilayer monolayerinterface. We analyze the effects of perpendicular magnetic fields, quantum dot radius, and electricalfields on the two types of hybrid systems. We examine the possible applications of such a hybridsystem and contrast our findings with earlier published research. PACS numbers: 81.05.ue, 81.07.Ta, 73.22.Pr
