Potential competing interests: The author(s) declared that no potential competing interests exist.This is an insighful article on the influence of synchronous writing style on Academic English.The author provided a rich expose on ELT perspectives in India as well as a well articulated methodology.Although the major errors discovered were core grammar related ones (tense, punctiontion, spellings, etc.) which indicts the quality of language assessment in schools, it is important to mention the flexibility characteristic of language that makes it susceptible to variation in line with the context of use.The use of 'Ads' for advertisement has indeed been seen in formal usage which may have given the variant a conventional status.
