Effect of Amhara Credit and Saving Institution (ACSI) to Improve Farmer’s Livelihood: Antsokia Gemza District, Ethiopia

Abstract The objective of the study was to analyze the effect of ACSI to improve farmers livelihood in Antsokia Gemza Woreda. The study also adopted a mixed research approach with multistage sampling technique to answer research questions from the total 240sampled households 129 of them were participant while 111 were non-participant respondents. Descriptive statistic logit model were used to analyze farmers living standard and factors affecting credit access. The PSM model was also used the effect/impact of ACSI program on beneficiary outcome variable livestock asset, non-livestock asset and annual income .The results of study indicated that ACSI have had a positive influence on the income growth asset accumulation and improvement farmer’s living standard, increase agricultural products, assets and number of livestock for their farmers’ clients. However, there are challenges farmers faced in taking credit from ACSI were high interest rate, size of loan, lending methods. Therefore, concerned body aimed to accelerate growth of farmers’ livelihood in the area could be fruitful. The ACSI should establish a strong and strategic alliance with other stakeholders, apply different incentive mechanisms, individuals may have access to ACSI credit without forming groups, minimizing the loan interest rate, revise regularly the size of loan, .
