Phytochemical Analysis of Gossypium Hirsutum Root Extracts Obtained From Monze District of Southern Province, Zambia-Using Qualitative Methods.

Résumé

Abstract Phytochemicals are primary and secondary compounds which are naturally occurring in the medicinal plants, leaves, vegetables and roots that have defense mechanism and protect from various diseases. Gossypium hirsutum is a plant from the Malvaceae family of flowering plants is used in folk medicine for its medicinal values. The aim of this study was to conduct a qualitative phytochemical analysis of Gossypium hirsutum root extracts. The results showed that the root extract of Gossypium hirsutum contains saponin, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, amino acids, carbohydrates, reducing sugars, proteins, alkaloids, phytosteroids and glycosides.
