Influence of entrepreneurial leadership on proactive work behavior among head nurses

Article scientifique 2026 Anglais

Résumé

Introduction Entrepreneurial leadership (EL) has been linked to proactive work behavior among healthcare professionals. However, limited research has examined its influence on proactive work behavior (PWB) among head nurses. This study aimed to examine the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership (EL) and proactive work behavior (PWB) among head nurses in Alqalubia, Egypt. Methods A cross-sectional design was conducted with 55 head nurses from Central Toukh Hospital, Alqalubia Governorate, Ministry of Health, Egypt. Participants were recruited using a census sampling technique. Data were collected using a personal and job characteristics sheet, an entrepreneurial leadership questionnaire, and a proactive work behavior scale. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 27. Result More than half (53%) of the head nurses demonstrated a high level of entrepreneurial leadership, while 25% showed a moderate level and 22% a low level. Regarding proactive work behavior, 38.2% exhibited a high level, 40% a moderate level, and 21.8% a low level. A highly statistically significant positive correlation was found between total entrepreneurial leadership and total proactive work behavior ( p < 0.001). Conclusion There was a significant positive correlation between entrepreneurial leadership and proactive work behavior among head nurses. Establishing an educational program to enhance head nurses’ awareness of entrepreneurial leadership is recommended as a potential approach to strengthen proactive work behavior. However, given the single-site design and small sample size, these findings should be considered preliminary and context-specific, limited to Central Toukh Hospital; caution is warranted against broad generalization to other healthcare settings or populations.
