Improving the rate of diabetic wound healing using dielectric barrier discharge

Article scientifique 2023 Anglais

Résumé

Abstract Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in the air has been applied to improve the rate of diabetic wound healing in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. The mice were classified into control, diabetic, and two experimental groups treated with CAP. Wounds were treated with CAP once per day for each experimental group for 10 and 20 sec for 15 consecutive days. The rate of wound healing in the group of diabetic mice that have been treated for 10 sec was higher compared to the group of treated diabetics for 20 sec and the control. Histological analyzes of control and plasma-treated for 10 sec revealed epidermal formation, cell proliferation, and improve inflammation earlier as compared to both the diabetic and the treated diabetic for 20 sec. Concomitantly, recovered cytokines (TNFα, CTGF) were relatively similar to the control during the healing period in 10 sec treated group as compared to the diabetic one. Our study confirmed the efficacy of CAP for medical plasma therapies.
