Editorial: Environmental threats to human reproduction

Résumé

These environmental stressors acts via multiple pathways. First, they disrupt the endocrine system by mimicking or blocking sex hormones (Akhigbe et al., 2022). They may also induce oxidative stress by upregulating the generation of free radicals and suppressing antioxidants (Kumar et al., 2018;Akhigbe et al., 2021), trigger inflammation and immune response (Li et al., 2021;Ashonibare et al., 2024b), and promote genotoxicity (Choudhuri et al., 2021) Although SARS-CoV-2 remains quite novel, convincing evidences have been provided on its possible link with infertility (Akhigbe and Hamed, 2020;Adeyemi et al., 2022)
