A Religio-Scientific Paradigm for Ethico-Value Reorientation in Africa

Article scientifique 2026 Anglais

Résumé

This study advances and critically evaluates a religio-scientific paradigm as a framework for ethico-value reorientation in contemporary African societies. Amid persistent moral challenges— including corruption, social fragmentation, environmental degradation, and declining institutional trust—the paper contends that neither religious ethics nor scientific rationality, in isolation, is sufficient to address the complexity of Africa’s ethical crisis. Instead, it argues for a constructive synthesis grounded in ethical pluralism and the dialogical relationship between faith and reason. Drawing on interdisciplinary scholarship in African philosophy, religious studies, and science ethics discourse, the study develops a conceptual model that integrates the normative authority of religious traditions with the analytical and problem-solving capacities of scientific inquiry. Through qualitative analysis of existing literature, it identifies key areas of convergence between religious moral teachings and scientific frameworks, particularly in governance, public health, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. The findings indicate that a deliberate integration of religious and scientific perspectives can cultivate moral consciousness, reinforce social cohesion, and promote sustainable development by aligning spiritual values with empirical reasoning. The paper concludes that a religio-scientific paradigm provides both an intellectually coherent and practically viable approach to reconstructing ethical foundations in African societies. It therefore recommends the institutionalization of integrative ethics education, sustained interdisciplinary dialogue, and policy frameworks that embed both religious insight and scientific knowledge in processes of value formation and public leadership.
