Co-creation in Higher Education amid Times of War: Exploring the Role of Student Representatives at the Faculty of Law at the University of Khartoum

Résumé

Abstract This chapter explores the extended co-creation role played by student representatives (SRs) in the teaching and learning process during a time of war—namely, the armed conflict in Sudan, which began in April 2023. Conducted in the Faculty of Law at the University of Khartoum and adopting a co-creation approach between staff and students of the faculty, it examines the nature and scope of the co-creation role and the impact of the structure of SRs. It finds that the role of SRs is expanded during such difficult times to encompass both pedagogical and political aspects. SRs becomes a main focal point for both the institution and students with regard to the co-creational management of the circumstances caused by the war. The chapter concludes with recommendations that universities can develop strategies to manage wartime crises in education through understanding and utilising concepts of co-creation.
