Back Control Over Academic Publications."Although not new, the ideas for freeing up the scientific publishing system are clear, current, and yet subject to debate.The authors suggest that universities should primarily take control of disseminating scientific advances.Through institutional repositories, an open, accessible, and sustainable system of publications can be encouraged.However, even publishers or repositories may become for-profit in the long term, falling back into the commercialization of science.Certainly, there is no complete solution to the problem indicated in this commentary, but the discussion that the authors suggest is worthwhile and generates further ideas collaborating to improve the global scientific system.The authors could also emphasize the great difficulty faced by scientists living in low-and middle-income countries.Often, they cannot publish their research results in high-level journals, mostly because they lack the funds to pay excessively high APC charges.Therefore, their research remains on the periphery of science.
