Review of: "Resentment and Multiculturalism: Kymlicka’s Canada, Bonilla Maldonado’s Colombia and Modood’s UK"

Résumé

This article presents a comparative analysis of the views of three authors, Kymlicka, Modood and Girard on multiculturalism in liberal democracies. The author presents a clear and measured and thorough discussion. What the authors who are reviewed in this article, do not interrogate, are the institutional approaches to democracy and how this impacts on how multiculturalism is actualised. Because the article presents their views and compares their views, the context of the countries are not explained. For example, (1) a legal system that emphasises individual rights over group rights; (2) the definition of citizenship, eg common language; no cultural or religious markers.
