Effective Solid Waste Management Practices in Developing Countries: Problems and Prospects

Résumé

Solid waste generation increases with population expansion and economic development. Uncontrolled dumping and improper waste handling cause a variety of problems, including contaminating water, attracting insects and rodents, and increasing flooding due to blocked drainage canals or gullies. In addition, it may result in safety hazards from fires or explosions and increased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which contribute to climate change. The target of this study is to review some of the fundamental issues associated with solid waste generation, storage, collection, transshipment, treatment and disposal and proposed likely suggestions that can help alleviate them Keywords: Sanitary landfill, climate change, waste generation, storage, collection, transshipment and treatment.
