Review of: "Government interference in election administration and lethal electoral irregularities in Africa: Evidence from Nigeria"

Potential competing interests: No potential competing interests to declare.The article is timeous and relevant.However, in measures of approach, focus, methodology and conclusion, it appears to lack much needed investigative integrity and logical reliability.Specifically, the paper cannot have Nigeria as a reflection of the African context.Of course, sample representativeness will be improbable since the country is just a sub-set of the African continent.In terms of direction, it's confusing to lump organizational financing with manpower dynamics, organizational history, electoral processes and organizational perception, whereas interference with the operations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been focused.On methodology, it seems strange that the authors did present descriptive data in the report, despite affiring an exploratory design (i.e.key informant interviews, available documents, and personal experience as sources of data) for the research.Meanwhile, the authors have needlessly overgeneralize and over-sensationalized the situation with the INEC.Obviously, the agency has been experiencing cogent operational shortcomings since 1998, but it has been improving with each electoral cycle.Essentially, the authors lack needed evidence/data to drive home with their claims of INEC's culpability.Meanwhile, if the authors can improve on the paper by making its title crispy and understanble and its contents incontrovertible, I will recommend it for publication.
