Skills Required for Managing Research Equipment

Résumé

The operation, management and maintenance of state-of-the-art equipment requires different levels of high end technical and managerial skills in order to optimally and sustainably manage RI. Training and succession planning is therefore critical to ensuring that the necessary skills are in place to support the equipment over its functional lifespan. This chapter presents an overview of the various categories of skills and the associated job descriptions required to manage research equipment.
